GAME NOTES: The Prairie View A&M Panthers and the Alabama A&M Bulldogs will meet up at Elmore Gym on Monday night for a Southwestern Athletic Conference duel.

Prairie View A&M has lost back-to-back games after winning three straight. The Panthers have slid to 6-14 overall during the short losing streak, although they are still treading water in league play (4-4). They will begin a three- game homestand against Texas Southern next.

Jeremy Crutcher split a pair of free-throws with two seconds to play, lifting Alabama A&M to a 64-63 win over Texas Southern on Saturday. The victory ended a three-game losing streak for the Bulldogs, who are also 4-4 in league action, but a sub par 7-11 overall. They hit the road next to contend with Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Last year Prairie View A&M swept the season series with Alabama A&M, although its win at Elmore Gym came by just four points. The Panthers have won the last three meetings, however, the Bulldogs still lead the all-time series by a count of 21-10.

The Panthers were defeated by Alabama State in their most recent test, 76-63. They only connected on 34.4 percent of their field goal tries, including a 7- of-22 effort from 3-point range. They also committed 17 turnovers against only seven assists.

In terms of offensive production, Prairie View A&M is a solid unit, ranking fourth in the league in scoring (70.7 ppg) and fifth in field goal percentage (.414). However, the Panthers are miserable on defense, as they allow 82.1 ppg on 48 percent shooting to the opposition. Montrael Scott (15.2 ppg) leads four players averaging in double figures, ranking fourth in the conference in scoring. John Brisco (11.3 ppg), Demondre Chapman (11.1 ppg) and Louis Munks (10.3 ppg) are all legitimate scoring options, while Treshawn Hagood (6.4 ppg, 4.5 apg) ranks fourth in the league in assists.

Alabama A&M led by as many as 10 points and trailed for less than 30 seconds in the second half against Texas Southern, although it needed Crutcher's timely foul shots to secure the victory. The Bulldogs only hit on 6-of-14 from the charity stripe, but they did shoot 51.1 percent from the floor.

The Bulldogs have much more trouble scoring than do the Panthers. They are only putting in 63 ppg and connecting on 39.9 percent of their attempts from the field, both marks ranking next-to-last in the SWAC. Crutcher (12.1 ppg, 3.5 apg) is the only player on the team scoring in double figures, as well as the team's leader in assists. DeMarquelle Tabb (9.6 ppg, 5.8 rpg) spearheads the team's effort on the glass, despite playing exclusively off the bench. Tabb had only three points and a pair of boards against Texas Southern, while Crutcher finished with 11 points and seven assists.

The Panthers inability to slow teams down, especially on the road where they are just 2-11, has been well documented. Expect the Bulldogs to get into more of a rhythm on offense and defend their home floor.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Alabama A&M 67, Prairie View A&M 62
