GAME NOTES: In a Colonial Athletic Association matchup at the Kaplan Arena, William & Mary will host James Madison as the Dukes take aim at the season sweep of the Tribe.
Before its bye week off, James Madison most recently suffered a 66-62 loss to Georgia State. It was the second consecutive loss for the Dukes who have lost three of their last five games. They look to wrap up regular season action on a high note before competing in the CAA Tournament next weekend at the Richmond Coliseum.
The Tribe are coming off a 73-72 win over UNC-Wilmington. It was the fourth win in the last five games for William & Mary. After starting off 0-6 to begin conference play, the Tribe has gone 7-4 since.
The Dukes lead the all-time series 46-37 and after an 81-71 win over the Tribe in early February, JMU has won the last two meetings.
In the loss to the Panthers, A.J. Davis supplied a double-double performance with 22 points and 10 rebounds in a valiant effort while knocking down four shots from beyond the arc. Devon Moore added 14 points, five assists, three steals, and two blocks. JMU's poor shooting from 3-point range (6-of-23) is what cost the squad, while the Duke's 15 personal fouls led to 17-of-18 shooting from the free-throw line for Georgia State.
The Duke's are led in scoring this season by three players averaging double figures, including Rayshawn Goins who scores 13.3 ppg with 7.5 rpg. Moore adds 11.4 ppg and Davis manages 10.4 ppg. Goins is the only JMU player that averages more than 3.5 rpg as the squad's rebounding leaves a lot to be desired. The Dukes take good care of the ball, averaging 11.3 turnovers per game with ranks them 28th in the nation and keeps them on track to set the school record.
William & Mary was led by Tim Rusthoven, Marcus Thornton, and Brandon Britt who scored 17 points each in the win over UNCW. Julian Boatner went 3-of-3 from downtown and added 11 points, while the Tribe shot over 50.0 percent from the field. It was a Rusthoven free-throw that gave William & Mary the win in the final second of the game.
The Tribe are also led by three players in double figures in Thornton, Rusthoven, and Britt. Thornton averages 18.6 ppg, while shooting well over 40.0 percent from 3-point range. Rusthoven adds 14.2 ppg and Britt closely follows with 14.0 ppg. Rusthoven is the team's leading rebounder with 7.2 rpg. William & Mary shoots efficiently from the field at 46.2 percent.
While James Madison has struggled on the road this season, tallying a 3-9 record in 12 tries, the Dukes are in desperate need of a win before the close of the regular season. Goins needs to have a big night against the Tribe to guide his team to a much needed win.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: James Madison 68, William & Mary 64
