NCAA Game Summary - Loyola Marymount at Valparaiso

Valparaiso, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Alec Peters registered a game-high 30 points, helping the Valparaiso Crusaders overcome the Loyola Marymount Lions 80-73 at the ARC.

Peters shot 9-of-16 from the field and 8-of-9 at the free-throw line, while grabbing eight rebounds for the Crusaders (7-5). Jordan Coleman and LaVonte Dority helped the cause with 12 and 10 points, respectively, as they won for the third time in the last four outings.

Anthony Ireland led the Lions (6-4) with 18 points on 6-of-18 from the floor, accounting for a game-high eight assists as the team suffered a second straight setback. Evan Payne and Gabe Levin also reached double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The Crusaders struggled early on to find a rhythm offensively, shooting a disappointing 25 percent from the floor in the first half. The Lions, converting 45.2 percent, established a 39-29 lead heading into halftime.

In the second half the Crusaders turned things around, improving to 56.5 percent from the field, including 4-of-8 from the perimeter. They took the lead with 8:30 left to play and never looked back, outscoring the visitors at the charity stripe in the period, 21-9.

While Valpo shot just 38.2 percent from the floor, slightly worse than the Lions 44.1 percent, the Crusaders got plenty of points at the foul line where they made good on 32-of-41 in the contest. The Lions sank just 2-of-10 from 3- point range.
