(Saturday, January 26)

Final Score: Cornell 66, Columbia 63

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Gala Cancer scored 19 points off the bench as the Cornell Big Red held off a late comeback attempt by the Columbia Lions to win, 66-63, in an Ivy League bout at Levien Gymnasium.

Cancer shot just 4-of-11 from the field but was 11-of-12 from the foul line for Cornell (9-10, 1-1 Ivy), which has won three of four. Josh Figini (12 points) was also impressive off the bench, while Shonn Miller tallied nine points and 11 rebounds for the visitors.

For Columbia (9-7, 1-1), Brian Barbour scored 15 points, Alex Rosenberg had 13 points, and Maodo Lo chipped in 11 points.

Cornell shot just 33.3 percent in the first half, but it missed just one of its 12 attempts from the free-throw line as it went into intermission with a 31-19 lead. Columbia was only 8-of-29 (.276) from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.

The Big Red held a 51-36 advantage midway through the second half before the Lions mounted a 27-13 run to bring their deficit to just one, 64-63, with eight seconds left following a three-point play by Barbour. Cancer drilled a pair of free throws for Cornell to extend its lead to three, then a Barbour 3- point attempt at the buzzer was off the mark as Columbia's comeback fell just short.

Cornell finished an outstanding 25-of-29 from the foul line, while Columbia was only 11-of-17 from the stripe.
