South Carolina, Staley agree to extension
Columbia, SC (Sports Network) - South Carolina and head women's basketball coach Dawn Staley have agreed to a three-year contract extension, the school announced Wednesday.
The pact will keep Staley at South Carolina through the 2018-19 season.
"I want to thank Ray Tanner, President (Harris) Pastides and the Board of Trustees for this contract extension," Staley said in a statement. "Our goal is to build a national championship caliber program that represents the University of South Carolina with distinction both on the court and in the classroom. I believe we have set the foundation for that success here and I am excited to a part of building on that for years to come."
Staley led South Carolina to a 25-8 mark last season and a berth in the women's NCAA Tournament, where the Gamecocks fell to Kansas in the second round.
Staley took over at South Carolina in 2008 and owns a 92-66 record in her five seasons, including back-to-back 25-win campaigns after managing just 10 wins in her first season.
Before joining the Gamecocks, the Philadelphia native spent eight seasons at Temple and led the Owls to a record of 172-80. She guided the school to six NCAA Tournament appearances and four Atlantic 10 Tournament titles.
