Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Travis Lulay threw for three touchdowns and ran for an additional score to carry the British Columbia Lions to a 29-26 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at BC Place.
Lulay completed 26-of-36 pass attempts for 359 yards and the three scores for British Columbia (6-3) which recovered from a tough loss to Montreal last time out. Emmanuel Arceneaux caught four passes for 113 yards and a score and Marco Iannuzzi and Shawn Gore each caught touchdown passes as well for the Lions.
CFL-leading passer Henry Burris completed 28-of-35 pass attempts for 340 yards and two scores but was also intercepted once for Hamilton (4-5) which had its three-game winning streak snapped. Greg Ellingson was Burris' favorite target on the night as he caught eight passes for 92 yards and a score.
Lulay tossed a five-yard touchdown pass to Gore on Hamilton's second possession to push the Tiger-Cats ahead, 7-0.
The Lions would even the score at 7-7 early in the second quarter when Bakari Grant took a Burris pass 14 yards for a touchdown.
Lulay's second touchdown pass of the game came soon after as he hooked up with Arceneaux for an 80-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the next Lions' possession.
With just seven seconds left in the half, and the Lions backed up deep in their own territory, Paul McCallum conceded a safety on a punt attempt.
With the defensive score, the Tiger-Cats pulled closer but still trailed, 14-9, at the half.
Lulay was able to earn his third touchdown pass of the contest early in the third quarter as he connected with Iannuzzi for a 22-yard strike that extended the Lions' advantage to 21-9.
Dan LeFevour pulled the Tiger-Cats closer later in the quarter with a one-yard touchdown run that cut the deficit to 21-16.
The Lions would add a single off a missed 43-yard field goal attempt from McCallum early in the fourth quarter.
A 34-yard field goal from Luca Congi later in the period cut the Lions' lead to just three points.
After a game of throwing touchdowns, Lulay scored one using his legs as he ran in for a two-yard score with six minutes left in the fourth quarter.
After both teams traded turnovers, Hamilton took over at its own 25-yard line with just over three minutes remaining. Burris then led the Tiger-Cats 85 yards down the field and finished the drive with a touchdown pass to Ellingson from two yards out with 25 seconds to play.
However Paris Jackson was able to recover the ensuing onside kick attempt by Congi and with three rushes the Lions ran out the clock to collect the win.
With the win British Columbia improved to 5-0 at home this season...Korey Banks had a team-high seven tackles and a sack for the Lions...Gore totaled 58 yards on five receptions and Iannuzzi had 66 yards on four catches... Hamilton's C.J. Gable was the game's leading rusher with 45 yards...Rico Murray had a game-high eight tackles for Hamilton...Burris has now thrown for 300 yards or more in six games this season.
