=== Arthur and Grizzlies down fading Lakers ===

Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Darrell Arthur scored a season-high 20 points
off the bench as the Memphis Grizzlies added to the Los Angeles Lakers'
January woes with a 106-93 victory at FedExForum.

Arthur added nine rebounds to help the Grizzlies dominate the glass en route
to dealing the reeling Lakers a fourth straight loss and its first seven-game
road skid since the 2004-05 season. Memphis finished with a 52-34 advantage on
the boards, with Rudy Gay and Zach Randolph each posting double-doubles in
addition to a 19-point, six-assist effort from Mike Conley.

The Grizzlies also outscored Los Angeles by a whopping 27-3 margin in second-
chance points and delivered a 60-34 advantage in points in the paint in
bouncing back from a one-point setback to Indiana in Monday's opener of a
 four-game homestand

Gay finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds, with Randolph amassing 12 points
 and 10 boards.

"We all had to pull together," Grizzlies guard Tony Allen said. "We shared the
ball, rebounded and put defense first."

The Lakers fell to 2-10 for the month despite Kobe Bryant's 29 points. Metta
World Peace and Pau Gasol recorded 15 and 13 points, respectively, in the
 loss.

"I don't know how we can play harder. We just didn't play well," Lakers head
 coach Mike D'Antoni said. "That's what's scary."

Memphis held a slim 24-23 edge at the end of a tightly contested opening
quarter that featured six ties and five lead changes, but put together a big
run in the second to gain the upper hand.

The Grizzlies ripped off nine straight points, capped by a Conley trey with
5:19 left in the half, to turn a 37-33 lead into a double-digit advantage.
After Bryant buried a turnaround jumper on the ensuing possession, Memphis'
Tony Wroten sank an 18-footer before pick-pocketing Steve Nash and feeding
Conley for an uncontested layup to put the Grizzlies up 50-35.

Los Angeles responded with a 13-4 burst over the next two minutes to close
within 54-48, and it remained a six-point spread until Gay knocked down a
triple with 6.7 seconds on the clock to send Memphis into the break up by a
 59-50 count.

The Lakers began the second half with an 8-3 spurt, in which Bryant netted the
final six points, to trim the deficit to three just over three minutes into
the third quarter. That would be as close as they would get, however, as
Memphis regained control over the latter stages of the period.

A 6-0 surge culminating with Marc Gasol's successful outside shot staked the
Grizzlies to a 73-63 lead with just under five minutes to go in the third
quarter. Memphis went into the fourth ahead by 10 as well, taking an 83-73
differential into the final stanza after limiting Los Angeles to 38.1 percent
 shooting for the frame.

The Lakers never seriously threatened in the fourth quarter, with Memphis'
lead swelling to 103-82 with under three minutes left following an 18-8
sequence in which Arthur put up eight points.

                                   Game Notes

Gay tied former Grizzlie Pau Gasol for the most games played in franchise
history by appearing in his 476th contest. Pau Gasol was a member of the
Grizzlies from 2001-08 before being traded to the Lakers in a deal that
brought the rights to brother Marc to Memphis ... Arthur's previous season
best was 14 points, set against San Antonio on Jan. 11, while his 28 minutes
played matched a season high ... Wroten finished with career highs in points
 (9) and minutes (18) while receiving a bump in playing time following
Tuesday's trade in which the Grizzlies sent center Marreese Speights and
guards Wayne Ellington and Josh Selby, plus a future first-round pick, to
Cleveland in exchange for forward Jon Leuer. Leuer did not play in his Memphis
debut ... The Grizzlies, who had scored 85 points or less in six straight
games coming in, improved to 12-0 when recording 100 or more this season ...
The Lakers announced that forward Jordan Hill, out since Jan. 6, underwent
 season-ending hip surgery on Wednesday.
