Bautista Agut dumps Robredo in Madrid

Madrid, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - Roberto Bautista Agut pulled off a mild upset of fellow Spaniard Tommy Robredo on Sunday to start play at the Madrid Open.

Bautista Agut claimed a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over the 16th-seeded Robredo, who has never fared well in Madrid with a quarterfinal appearance in 2004 his best previous result.

Other winners on a light day of play in the main draw were Jeremy Chardy of France and Spain's Guillermo Garcia-Lopez. Chardy rallied past Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, while Garcia-Lopez topped countryman Pablo Andujar, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.

The French Open tune-up features three-time champions Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, as well as 2008 winner Andy Murray. Novak Djokovic, the 2011 champ, was forced to withdraw on Sunday because of a right arm injury that has kept him sidelined since Monte Carlo.

Nadal, this year's top seed, beat Stanislas Wawrinka for last year's title.
