Memphis Grizzlies (43-30) at Denver Nuggets (32-41), 9 p.m.
(SportsNetwork.com) - There's still plenty of time for the Memphis Grizzlies
to get themselves back in the Western Conference playoff picture and they'll
try to make that happen Monday against the Denver Nuggets.
The Grizzlies are currently a half-game behind Phoenix and Dallas for the
final playoff berth in the conference and only two games in back of Golden
State for the No. 6 spot in the standings with nine to play.
Memphis fell to 1-2 on its current road trip and has dropped back-to-back
decisions to Golden State and Portland. In Sunday's 105-98 loss to the Trail
Blazers, Zach Randolph ended with 21 points, seven boards and two steals,
while Marc Gasol and Mike Conley scored 20 and 16 points, respectively.
"They just came out harder than us. They wanted it more from the start. They
came out being aggressive. Our defense wasn't there tonight," Randolph said.
The Grizzlies had won three straight and nine of 11 games before the recent
slide. They will close the trek Wednesday at Minnesota and are 20-16 outside
FedExForum this season.
Denver is mired in a three-game losing streak and lost for the fourth time in
five tries with Friday's 133-102 beating at the hands of the San Antonio
Randy Foye had 20 points and Kenneth Faried ended with 18 points and 13
rebounds in the lopsided loss. The Spurs, who shot 56 percent for the game and
made 13-of-24 3-pointers, scored 30 or more points in every quarter and led by
a 62-43 difference at halftime.
"What is there to say? That was an embarrassing loss just from every
standpoint of the game. Defensively, body language, energy ... [it was] just
embarrassing," said Nuggets coach Brian Shaw.
The Nuggets fell to 19-17 in the Mile High City and will also welcome New
Orleans to the Pepsi Center on this stay.
Nuggets forward Wilson Chandler (hip/groin) is doubtful versus the Grizzlies,
who have split two meetings with Denver this season. The Nuggets have won four
of the last six games in this series. They have won three straight and 11 of
the past 12 matchups with the Grizzlies in Colorado.
