Insight: When Machado fell awkwardly on the way to first base last week against the Rays, it looked for sure like he had just torn his ACL. Instead it was a torn medial patellar ligament, which is far less serious. His recovery timetable is still 6-to-8 weeks.

Insight: Machado, who had his knee buckle on the way to first base Monday night and was stretchered off the field, is expected to be ready for the start of spring training. He'll rest for four weeks before being reevaluated to determine if a minor surgical procedure is necessary.

Insight: Machado, who had his knee buckle on the way to first base, was in serious pain and could be out for a very long time. He left the field on a stretcher and was replaced by Danny Valencia at third base. The 21-year-old has not missed a game this season.
