National League Game Summary - Arizona at Miami|
(Sunday, May 19th)
Final Score: Miami 2, Arizona 1
Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Ricky Nolasco dazzled Arizona hitters over eight-
plus innings to lead the Miami Marlins to a 2-1 win over the Diamondbacks to
avoid a three-game series sweep.
Nolasco (3-5) gave up one run on five hits while striking out a season-high 11
batters to snap a three-start losing streak. Mike Dunn got out of a bases-
loaded jam in the ninth to earn his first save of the season.
Marcell Ozuna hit a two-run double and Derek Dietrich and Adeiny Hechavarria
each scored a run for the Marlins, who had dropped seven straight games.
Didi Gregorius went 3-for-4 with a double and scored a run and Jason Kubel
drove in the lone run for the D'backs, who had won four straight games
entering the contest.
Wade Miley (3-3) was tagged with the loss after giving up both runs on five
hits while striking out six over six innings.
Ozuna's two-run double in the sixth put the Marlins in front 2-0. Hechavarria
singled then moved to third on Dietrich's base hit. Ozuna followed with his
double off the wall in left, scoring both runners easily.
"Fastball right down the middle," Miley said of Ozuna's hit. "I was trying to
go away and didn't get it out there and he did a great job of capitalizing. I
just missed my spot."
It was the biggest inning the Marlins had since scoring a pair of runs in the
ninth inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 12.
"We got two runs. That was just what we needed," said Nolasco.
Gregorius opened the ninth inning with a double, chasing Nolasco from the
game. The Marlins called on Steve Cishek, who was able to get Paul Goldschmidt
to ground out.
"I wanted to finish it, but at the same time, we've got Cishek down there,"
said Nolasco. "Fourth time around the lineup, and those guys seeing me. It was
a good decision to make."
Gregorius, though, moved to third on the play before scoring on Kubel's
sacrifice fly to deep left field.
Eric Chavez followed with a pinch-hit single then moved to second on a Martin
Prado walk. Cishek was replaced by Mike Dunn, who walked Miguel Montero to
load the bases with two outs, but was able to get A.J. Pollock to ground out
to Hechavarria at short to end the game.
Nolasco improved to 6-2 all-time against the D'backs ... Dunn has not allowed
a run at home this season ... Arizona outfielder Gerardo Parra had his
seven-game hitting streak snapped ... Despite the loss, the D'backs have won
10 of their last 15 games overall.
