Orb joined by Oxbow in 3-year-old poll

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Preakness Stakes champ Oxbow has jumped into second-place behind Kentucky Derby winner Orb in the current NTRA 3-year-old Poll. Reigning Horse of the year Wise Dan continues to lead the way in the national rankings.

Orb, trained by Shug McGaughey, holds on to the top spot in the 3-year-old poll in spite of his fourth-place finish in the Preakness. The colt received 43 top votes, five fewer than last week, and 466 points. He had been the unanimous selection among the voters the two weeks following his Run for the Roses victory.

"If I have the opportunity again (to compete in the Derby)," McGaughey said after the Preakness, "I may cherish it even more, because I've seen how tough it is to get it done. Maybe, I do appreciate how tough it is to win more. As brilliant as we were two weeks ago, we weren't as brilliant (Saturday)."

Oxbow was rewarded for his Preakness win with three first-place votes and 407 points.

"It's been a while (Charismatic, 1999), but it never gets old," said trainer D. Wayne Lukas, who has won the Preakness six times.

Orb and Oxbow are both expected to start in the Belmont Stakes on June 8.

Staying third in the voting is Kentucky Derby third-place finisher Revolutionary. Held out of the Preakness, Revolutionary picked up the lone remaining top vote and 325 points. Trained by Todd Pletcher, the colt is probable for the Belmont Stakes.

Completing the top-10 are Itsmyluckyday (298), Mylute (232), Normandy Invasion (207), Golden Soul (171), Verrazano (124), Princess of Sylmar (75) and Beholder (69).

Wise Dan, Game On Dude and Animal Kingdom maintained their positions at the head of the NTRA National Poll.

Wise Dan received 35 first-place votes and 453 points, while Game On Dude garnered 10 top votes and 413 points. Animal Kingdom, waiting to close his career in England, posted two first-place votes and 352 points.

Moving up one spot into fourth is Point of Entry with 274 points. The 5-year- old is followed by Graydar (158), Royal Delta (152), Orb (129), Take Charge Indy (123), Suggestive Boy (75) and Mizdirection (56).
