NCAA Game Summary - Texas-San Antonio at Arizona

(Saturday, September 14)

Final Score: Arizona 38, Texas-San Antonio 13

Tucson, AZ (Sports Network) - B.J. Denker scored two touchdowns on the ground and threw for another as he guided the Arizona Wildcats to a convincing 38-13 win over the Roadrunners of Texas-San Antonio in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

Denker connected on 14-of-21 passing for 158 yards and added another 90 yards rushing on 10 carries for the Wildcats (3-0) as they remained undefeated. Ka'Deem Carey ran the ball 27 times for a game-high 128 yards in the triumph as well.

UTSA (1-2) quarterback Eric Soza converted 30-of-46 passes for 277 yards and was picked off once in the losing effort.

UTSA actually took an early lead in the meeting, thanks to a 34-yard field goal by Sean Ianno, but after that the Wildcats recorded 17 straight points to take control.

The run for Arizona began with a 13-yard TD pass from Denker to Samajie Grant at the 6:14 mark of the first quarter, followed by a 35-yard TD run by Denker just over three minutes later. In the second, Arizona kicker Jake Smith knocked through a 23-yard field goal to make the score 17-3.

A 43-yard field goal by Ianno came later in the frame for the Roadrunners, but Arizona countered with a four-yard touchdown run by Carey, en route to a 24-6 advantage at the break.

Denker and Carey delivered scoring runs of one and seven yards in the third and fourth quarters, respectively, to boost the lead to 38-6.

Refusing to go away that easily, the Roadrunners final made it into the end zone on a four-yard run by David Glasco II with 9:39 left in the final period of play.
