Mobile, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Augustine Rubit tallied a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds as the South Alabama Jaguars dismissed the Houston Baptist Huskies, 79-59, on the final day of the CBE Classic at the Mitchell Center.
Ken Williams was the only other player to score in double figures for South Alabama (4-2) with 13 points, although Aakim Saintil and Dionte Ferguson both chipped in nine points.
Rob Lewis scored 14 points off the bench for Houston Baptist (1-5), while Cody Joyce added 10 points.
Both teams shot exactly 44.4 percent from the field in the first half, but South Alabama attempted nine more shots than Houston Baptist and made five more 3-pointers, as it held a comfortable 46-31 advantage at the break.
The Jaguars only shot 27.6 percent from the floor in the second stanza, but the outcome was never in doubt as their lead grew to as many as 30 after halftime.
Houston Baptist committed 15 turnovers, which led to 18 points for South Alabama. The Jaguars had only seven giveaways themselves.
