San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Johnny Dee tallied 17 points to lead the way as the San Diego Toreros held on for a 70-59 decision over the Grand Canyon Antelopes in the final matchup of the 2013 San Diego Classic at Jenny Craig Pavilion.
Dennis Kramer added 14 points and six rebounds for USD (2-0), which received a double-double of 13 points and 12 assists from Christopher Anderson. Duda Sanadze chipped in eight of his 11 points in the second half.
Demetrius Walker led the Antelopes (0-2) with 19 points on 5-of-13 shooting from the floor. Killian Larson contributed a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds as coach Dan Majerle's squad lost its second consecutive game to begin its Division I era.
The Toreros hit on 68.2 percent of their field goal attempts and converted all seven of their free-throws in the opening 20 minutes to build a 40-27 lead by halftime. Grand Canyon went just 3-of-12 from beyond the arc in the first half.
The Antelopes slightly narrowed the deficit after the break by sinking 15- of-23 attempts at the charity stripe. USD shot 38.5 percent from the floor in the second half, which was enough to claim the 11-point win.
Although both teams finished the contest with 33 total rebounds, the Toreros held a dominant, 20-6, edge in points in the paint.
