Eugene, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - Brian Bennett scored 16 points in 19 minutes to lead the way as the Cal Poly Mustangs coasted to a 70-43 victory over North Dakota in a matchup that was part of the Global Spots Challenge at Matthew Knight Arena.
Jamal Johnson and Dave Nwaba scored 13 points each for Cal Poly (2-3) as it earned its second win of the season. Chris Eversley posted seven points and 11 rebounds in the triumph.
Quinton Hooker paced North Dakota (2-2) with nine points. Jamal Webb and Alonzo Traylor added seven points apiece.
North Dakota fell behind in the early stages of the contest and was limited to just 6-of-25 shooting from the floor in the first half. The Mustangs took a 35-19 lead into halftime after they hit on 50 percent of their field goal attempts in the opening 20 minutes of action.
Cal Poly converted 11-of-15 shots from inside the 3-point line in the second period while holding North Dakota to 22.7 percent shooting from the field.
North Dakota went just 4-of-18 from 3-point range and missed 16 of its 33 free-throw attempts. The Mustangs enjoyed a 40-33 edge in the rebounding battle and outscored North Dakota, 38-14, in the paint.
