Evansville, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - DJ Balentine scored a game-high 32 points, leading five players in double figures, as the Evansville Purple Aces registered a 100-92 win over the Crusaders of Valparaiso in a non-conference battle at the Ford Center.
Adam Wing scored 18 points for the Purple Aces (4-0), followed by Blake Simmons and Ryan Sawvell with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Duane Gibson responded with a double-double consisting of 12 points and a game-high 10 assists, adding six rebounds and two steals as well.
The Crusaders (2-3) were paced by Alec Peters who dropped in 30 points, shooting 7-of-11 behind the 3-point line, while Lavonte Dority tacked on 17 points and Jordan Coleman 12 before fouling out.
Evansville scored the first points of the night and never looked back, shooting 65.6 percent from the floor and 5-of-7 beyond the arc in the first half, en route to a 55-30 advantage at the break. Valpo knocked down 57.1 percent from the floor through the first 20 minutes.
In the second half the Crusaders closed the gap by converting 63.9 percent from the field and 9-of-16 on the perimeter, but at the same time Evansville made good on 54.5 percent from the floor and 17-of-25 at the free-throw line in order to capture the win.
Both teams shot over 61 percent from the field on the night, but the Purple Aces turned the ball over just nine times and outscored the visitors at the charity stripe, 25-10.
