Fort Collins, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Spencer Dinwiddie scored a season-high 28 points as the Colorado Buffaloes held off their intrastate rivals the Colorado State Rams at Moby Arena, 67-62.
Dinwiddie did his damage on 8-of-14 from the field and 11-of-11 from the free- throw line for Colorado (8-1), which has won eight straight since losing its opener. Askia Booker and Jaron Hopkins added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
For Colorado State (6-3), J.J. Avila tallied a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Daniel Bejarano put up 15 points, albeit on just 4- of-15 from the floor.
Neither team shot greater than 37 percent from the field in the opening half of play, but it was Colorado State who took a 34-30 lead into intermission behind a solid 10-of-13 showing from the foul line.
In the second half, the Buffs took control by shooting 44.4 percent from the floor while knocking down each of their 11 free-throw attempts. The Rams shot only 8-of-26 from the field after the break (.308). Dinwiddie converted a three-point play with 2:54 left to give Colorado a 61-58 lead, and it held on to that advantage the rest of the way.
Colorado State was plagued by 18 turnovers, which resulted in 18 points for the Buffs.
