Rosemont, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Jahii Carson scored 23 points and pulled down nine rebounds as the Arizona State Sun Devils posted a 78-56 win over the DePaul Blue Demons in a non-conference battle at Allstate Arena.
Carson shot 9-of-16 from the floor and handed out five assists in order to offset his six turnovers as Arizona State (8-2) won for the second time in the last three outings. Jermaine Marshall pitched in with 20 points, Shaquielle McKissic 14 and 12 boards off the bench, while Jonathan Gilling accounted for 12 points and six assists. Although he contributed only three points and five rebounds, Jordan Bachynski still played a big role in the paint with his eight blocked shots.
The Blue Demons (4-4), losers of three of the last four, were paced by Billy Garrett with 14 points, followed by Tommy Hamilton and Durrell McDonald with 12 and 11 points, respectively. McDonald also accounted for six of his team's eight steals.
Arizona State scored the first points of the night and never looked back as the defense held the hosts to just 29.7 percent shooting from the floor and 1- of-11 behind the 3-point line through the first 20 minutes of action. The Sun Devils connected on 40.7 percent from the field in the opening period in order to secure a 28-25 lead at the break.
In the second half ASU opened up the offense with a sizzling 61.5 percent accuracy from the floor, including 5-of-8 beyond the arc, en route to the 22- point victory.
DePaul was limited to a mere 29.2 percent shooting from the field and 2-of-17 (.118) out on the perimeter on the night.
