Brooklyn, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Nik Stauskas finished with 19 points to lead the Michigan Wolverines to a 68-65 victory over the Stanford Cardinal, as part of the Brooklyn Holiday Hoops Invitational at the Barclays Center.
Glenn Robinson III added 17 points for the Wolverines (7-4), while Zak Irvin chipped in with 12 points.
For the Cardinal (8-3), Chasson Randle led the way with 18 points, Stefan Nastic finished with 14 points, Dwight Powell scored 10 and Josh Huestis pulled down 10 rebounds.
Michigan shot 40 percent from the field in the first half, including 5-of-18 from 3-point range, as the Wolverines led at the break, 30-27. Stanford made 44 percent of its field goal tries in the opening period but just 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.
After halftime, the Cardinal improved to 47.8 percent shooting but continued to be ineffective from beyond the arc, making only 1-of-5 from 3-point range. The Wolverines hit on just 40.7 of their shots from the field in the second half and 3-of-9 from 3-point distance. After pushing its lead to 10 with under eight minutes to play, the Wolverines saw that advantage shrink to just one, 66-65, with nine seconds left on the clock. However, after Stauskas knocked down two free-throws to push the Michigan lead to three, Randle's 3-point try at the buzzer was off the mark, and the Wolverines were able to hold on for the win.
Michigan outscored Stanford from beyond the arc, 24-12. The Cardinal had the advantage down low, outscoring the Wolverines in the paint, 34-22.
