Conway, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - Xavian Rimmer paced four teammates in double figures with a career-high 22 points as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns held off the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, 73-69, in the championship round of the mainland part of the Maui Invitational Tournament at the HTC Center.
Elfrid Payton nearly registered a triple-double with 13 points, nine assists and eight rebounds for Louisiana (4-2). Shawn Long tallied 18 points and seven boards, while Steven Wronkoski added 10 points.
For Coastal Carolina (2-4), Elijah Wilson led all scorers with 22 points. Warren Gillis netted 14 points and Michel Enanga grabbed 13 rebounds.
Even though Louisiana shot less than 39 percent from the field in the first half, it made five 3-pointers compared to Coastal Carolina's zero, as the Cajuns took a 31-24 lead into intermission.
Louisiana led throughout the second half and by as many as 13 points. The Chanticleers cut their deficit to three with five seconds remaining, but Long's 1-of-2 trip to the foul line on the other end of the court made it a two-possession game and thus sealed the deal.
The Cajuns held on for the win despite getting outrebounded, 45-36, and losing the turnover battle, 23-16.
