Amherst, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Chaz Williams registered a double-double with 19 points and 11 assists as the Massachusetts Minutemen posted an 85-69 win over the Youngstown State Penguins in non-conference action at the Mullins Center.
Also logging a double-double for the Minutemen (3-0) was Cady Lalanne with 13 points and a game-high 15 rebounds, while Sampson Carter and Raphiael Putney chipped in with 19 and 17 points, respectively.
The Penguins (4-1) were paced by Marcus Keene who dropped in a game-high 20 points in 23 minutes off the bench in the team's first setback of the season. Kendrick Perry and Bobby Hain tacked on 14 points apiece, the latter adding 10 rebounds.
YSU led by three points early on in the first half, but the team ended up shooting only 32.4 percent from the floor, including 3-of-15 behind the 3- point line, allowing the hosts to take a 34-26 lead into the break.
After shooting 50.0 percent from the field through the first 20 minutes of action, the Minutemen increased their accuracy after intermission to 59.4 percent as they ran away with the win.
UMass survived 19 turnovers on the afternoon by recording a 48-33 rebounding edge and holding the visitors to just 5-of-26 shooting on the perimeter.
