Cincinnati dominates Lipscomb
Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - Lance Stephenson had 19 points and five assists as 25th-ranked Cincinnati clubbed Lipscomb, 80-52, at Fifth Third Arena.
Dion Dixon had 15 points, Rashad Bishop added 13 points and five rebounds while Ibrahima Thomas added 10 points and six rebounds for the Bearcats (7-3), who snapped a two-game skid. Larry Davis added 10 points in the win.
"Well, I was very pleased with our effort today," said Cincinnati head coach Mick Cronin. "That was a tremendous defensive effort by our guys. A hard fought victory against a very well coached team. I told our guys we would have to grind out this victory."
Adnan Hodzic had 18 points and six rebounds while Brian Wright donated eight points, five rebounds and four assists for the Bisons (4-6), who had won their previous two games.
"We missed some easy ones that affected our energy," said Lipscomb head coach Scott Sanderson. "It was important to keep it close, and they jumped on us. You have to make the most of your opportunities. We missed a lot of easy ones."
The game was tight through the first 10 minutes and the Bisons, who led by six at one point, held a 19-17 lead with just over nine minutes to play in the opening half.
However, Stephenson hit a jumper to tie the game and kick-start a 16-2 run with Stephenson hitting two from the line with 2 1/2 minutes to play for a 33-21 lead.
Jordan Burgason hit a three-ball to stem the bleeding, but a Dixon layup near the break gave Cincinnati a 35-24 lead at the break.
The Bearcats netted the first seven points of the second half with Thomas' slam less than two minutes in giving the team a 42-24 advantage.
Lipscomb later got consecutive buckets to make it a 14-point game, but a pair of slams from Stephenson followed by a three-pointer from Bishop gave Cincinnati a 21-point lead with just over 14 minutes to play.
Lipscomb was unable to get its deficit under 17 points for the remainder of the game as the Bearcats cruised to the victory.
Cincinnati hosts Winthrop on Tuesday...Lipscomb plays at Arizona on Monday...It was the first-ever meeting between these two teams...Lipscomb shot just 29 percent in the game, compared to 54.4 percent shooting from Cincinnati.
