Description: Cardinals second baseman Mark Ellis ought to be in Saturday's starting lineup considering he's 8-for-13 (.615) with a homer against Pittsburgh left-hander Francisco Liriano.
Insight: Kolten Wong should continue to be the Cardinals starter but Ellis should get a spot start here. Ellis hasn't done much since coming back from his injury, batting just .125 in his first 16 at-bats.

4/15/2014 11:43:00 AM
Description: Cardinals second baseman Mark Ellis has been activated from the disabled list (knee).
Insight: Kolten Wong should continue to be the Cardinals starter with Ellis filling a backup role. Ellis used to have low-end value when he played with Oakland, but hasn't produced an OPS above .700 since 2011.

3/30/2014 10:43:00 PM
Description: Cardinals second baseman Mark Ellis will begin the season on the disabled list due to tendinitis in his left knee.
Insight: Ellis is still an excellent defensive second baseman but he hasn't done enough with the stick to be a fantasy option since 2009. He'll back up Kolten Wong when he's healthy.

12/16/2013 9:37:00 PM
Description: Second baseman Mark Ellis has agreed to a one-year, $5.25 million deal with St. Louis.
Insight: Ellis had spent his previous two seasons with the Dodgers. He's only hit .300 once in 12 major league seasons. That means he probably won't be a factor in fantasy.

10/14/2013 9:25:00 AM
Description: Veteran second baseman Mark Ellis is just 1-for-12 (.083) versus Cardinals right-hander Adam Wainwright.
Insight: The 36-year-old is 3-for-9 in the first two games of the series, but this is an unfavorable matchup.

9/19/2013 10:42:00 AM
Description: Veteran second baseman Mark Ellis will face Wade Miley Thursday when the Dodgers take on the Diamondbacks. Ellis is 10-for-20 with four home runs against the left-hander.
Insight: The 36-year-old hasn't done much for fantasy owners this season or in his career, but this matchup is a tasty one.

7/18/2013 11:36:00 AM
Description: Dodgers second baseman Mark Ellis (bruised left knee/shin) is probable for Friday's game against Washington.
Insight: He's done very little that could be called fantasy worthy this season, batting .255 with four homers, 26 RBI and a .640 OPS.

6/10/2013 11:16:00 AM
Description: Dodgers second baseman Mark Ellis is 8-for-18 (.444) with three home runs against Arizona starter Wade Miley.
Insight: Ellis broke up a seven-game hitless string with a base hit on Sunday. He's done very little that could be called fantasy worthy this season, but this is a favorable matchup.

6/7/2013 6:42:00 PM
Description: Dodgers second baseman Mark Ellis missed two straight games with a sore groin but is back in the lineup Friday, according to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com.
Insight: Ellis is hitting .268 with two homers and a .666 OPS in 37 games this season.

5/27/2013 10:18:00 AM
Description: Dodgers second baseman Mark Ellis is just 2-for-17 (.118) against Angels lefty C.J. Wilson.
Insight: When he's on the field, Ellis has been producing (.296, 12 RBI, 12 runs in 27 games), but this matchup doesn't bode well.

5/19/2013 11:55:00 AM
Description: Dodgers second baseman Mark Ellis (quad) has been activated from the 15-day disabled list, according to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com.
Insight: Ellis was hitting .342 with two homers, 11 RBI, 10 runs and a steal when he went on the DL on April 27 with a strained right quad. He's in the starting lineup Sunday against the Braves.

5/14/2013 8:49:00 PM

5/10/2013 8:57:00 PM
Description: Dodgers second baseman Mark Ellis (quad) is eligible to come off the DL Sunday but manager Don Mattingly said the team has not discussed a rehab assignment yet, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.
Insight: Mattingly indicated that Ellis will need a rehab assignment before returning, which means he won't be rejoining the Dodgers Sunday.

5/6/2013 8:57:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles placed second baseman Mark Ellis on the DL.
Insight: Ellis was diagnosed with a strained right quad. The move is retroactive to April 27th so Ellis will be eligible to return on May 12th.

5/3/2013 7:40:00 PM
Description: The Dodgers still haven't placed second baseman Mark Ellis on the disabled list despite his lingering quad injury.
Insight: Los Angeles was expected to DL him as soon as Clayton Kershaw returned from bereavement leave but now the team has decided to hold off. Ellis isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against San Francisco though he could be available off the bench.

Description: Dodgers second baseman Mark Ellis will probably be placed on the disabled list later this week. SOURCE: ESPN Los Angeles
Insight: He's been battling a quad strain for almost a week. Utility man Nick Punto should see most of the playing time at second base while Ellis is out.

4/30/2013 11:37:00 AM
Description: Los Angeles second baseman Mark Ellis is doubtful for Tuesday's game against Colorado with a strained right quad.
Insight: Ellis was playing very well, batting .342 with 2 HR, 10 runs scored and 11 RBI. He did take batting practice on Sunday so he might not be too far away from returning.

4/28/2013 10:30:00 AM
Description: Los Angeles second baseman Mark Ellis, who left Friday night's game with a strained right quad, missed Saturday's game and is expected to miss Sunday's game against Milwaukee.
Insight: Ellis was playing very well, batting .342 with 2 HR, 10 runs scored and 11 RBI. The Dodgers have plenty of guys who can fill in at second base, Nick Punto, Jerry Hairston, Jr., Juan Uribe, and Skip Schumaker, but none who will put up those type numbers.
