Insight: Heyward was hit in the jaw by a 90 mph fastball from Jon Niese Wednesday. The injury is the latest blow in what has been a miserable season for the 24-year-old. Heyward batted .121 in April, missed nearly a month due to an emergency appendectomy and was hitting .222 with a .686 OPS as recently as July 26. However, he came into Wednesday's game hitting .348 with six homers, 16 RBI, 25 runs and a 1.032 OPS over his last 23 games and had found a comfort zone in the leadoff spot.
