Northern Arizona set for 2012 schedule
Flagstaff, AR (Sports Network) - Northern Arizona will kick off its 2012 football schedule against two FBS opponents in gearing up for the new-look Big Sky Conference campaign.
The Lumberjacks will visit Arizona State on Sept. 1 and UNLV on Sept. 8 to open the season. There is a chance the Arizona State game could be moved to Aug. 30.
The Lumberjacks will then host Division II Fort Lewis in their home opener before embarking on their eight-game conference schedule in the 13-team Big Sky.
NAU will host Portland State (Sept. 29) and conference newcomers UC Davis (Oct. 20, Homecoming), Southern Utah (Nov. 10) and Cal Poly (Nov. 17). The Lumberjacks will visit Montana (Sept. 22), conference newcomer North Dakota (Oct. 13), Northern Colorado (Oct. 27) and Idaho State (Nov. 3).
"Playing Cal Poly, UC Davis and North Dakota will give us different opponents than we have seen," NAU coach Jerome Souers said. "The challenge will be fun, invigorating and interesting for the fans to see. The traditional games we have played will also be quality games for our football program. I am really excited about it and I think our team is as well."
The Lumberjacks will not play Big Sky members Eastern Washington, Montana State, Sacramento State and Weber State.
