NCAA Game Summary - North Carolina State vs. Virginia

(Friday, March 15th)

Final Score: North Carolina State 75, Virginia 56

Greensboro, NC (Sports Network) - Scott Wood hit on a career-high seven shots from beyond the arc in a 23-point effort that led North Carolina State to a 75-56 decision over Virginia in an ACC Tournament quarterfinal from Greensboro Coliseum.

Wood finished 7-of-12 from 3-point distance and also matched a personal best for scoring in a single game, with T.J. Warren adding 18 points and C.J. Leslie tallying 17 along with 11 rebounds for N.C. State (24-9).

The fifth-seeded Wolfpack advance to a semifinal matchup with regular-season conference champion Miami-Florida on Saturday, while Virginia (21-11) will learn its fate for a possible NCAA at-large selection on Sunday.

One of the perceived bubble teams for tournament inclusion, the Cavaliers own previous key wins over Duke, North Carolina, Wisconsin as well as the Wolfpack, but enter Selection Sunday with losses in three of their final four bouts.

Akil Mitchell paced Virginia with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, with Joe Harris finishing with 13 in the loss. As a team the Cavaliers shot just 38.9 percent from the field.

Wood's first triple of the day capped a 10-2 run that staked the Wolfpack to a 22-12 lead with six minutes to go in the first half, while Warren dropped in 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting over the opening 20 minutes as the Wolfpack took a 30-21 advantage into the break.

N.C. State then outscored the Cavs by a 14-4 count to begin the second half -- with Wood knocking down a trio of 3-pointers during the burst -- to build a commanding 44-25 lead with 16 1/2 minutes remaining.

The Wolfpack maintained a double-digit cushion the rest of the way.
