Jacksonville, AL (Sports Network) - Brian Williams scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Jacksonville State Gamecocks to an 83-62 victory over the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles at Pete Mathews Coliseum, as both teams opened Ohio Valley Conference play.
For the Gamecocks (9-3, 1-0 OVC), Darion Rackley added 16 points, Tarvin Gaines finished with 15 points and Ronnie Boggs scored 14 points.
Jud Dillard led the Golden Eagles (6-7, 0-1) with 12 points and Jeremiah Samarrippas chipped in with 11 points.
Jacksonville State shot well to open the contest, connecting on 54.2 percent of its shots from the field, including 4-of-9 from beyond the 3-point arc, as the Gamecocks went into halftime with a 39-28 lead. Tennessee Tech made just 32.3 percent of its field goal attempts in the first half and missed all three of its 3-point attempts.
After the break, the Gamecocks pushed their advantage by improving to 55.6 percent shooting from the field. The Golden Eagles also upped their shooting percentage, making 41.9 percent of their field goal attempts in the second half, including 3-of-9 from 3-point range. Jacksonville State used a 17-0 run early in the second half to take complete control of the game, as the Gamecocks coasted to the easy victory.
The Gamecocks took advantage of the Golden Eagles' mistakes, converting 16 turnovers into 24 points. The Golden Eagles did have the edge on the boards, outrebounding the Gamecocks 40-32.
