NCAA Game Summary - MD-Eastern Shore vs. Loyola-Chicago
(Sunday, November 18)
Final Score: Loyola-Chicago 62, MD-Eastern Shore 46
Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Ben Averkamp posted a game-high 27 points and
pulled down eight rebounds as he led the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers to a 62-46
win over the Fighting Hawks of MD-Eastern Shore as part of the South Florida
Invitational at the USF Sun Dome.
Averkamp converted 11-of-17 shots from the floor for the Ramblers (3-2) as he
became the 19th player in program history to score 1,000 points and pull down
500 rebounds in his career.
The Hawks (0-6) were paced by Troy Snyder with 13 points and six rebounds,
although he made just one of his six three-point tries. Ishaq Pitt tacked on
10 points off the bench.
Both teams had trouble finding the basket in the first half, but even with
just 9-of-24 shooting from the floor, including 1-of-10 on the perimeter, the
Ramblers only trailed by two points at the break, 21-19. Loyola's ability to
keep the game close was even more impressive given that it didn't make a
single trip to the free-throw line over the first 20 minutes of play.
In the second half the Ramblers turned it around with 55.6 percent accuracy
from the field and 11-of-14 at the charity stripe to cruise to the 16-point
win.
The Hawks finished the afternoon shooting only 37.2 percent from the floor and
were beaten on the glass, 38-23.
