College Park, MD (Sports Network) - Seth Allen tallied 21 points and Jake
Layman scored 20, as the Maryland Terrapins rolled to a 94-71 win over the
Virginia Tech Hokies in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams at
the Comcast Center.
Layman, starting in place of an injured Nick Faust, also contributed eight
rebounds and two blocks to help the Terrapins (13-1, 1-0 ACC) to their 13th
consecutive victory since opening the season with a loss to defending national
champion Kentucky. The winning streak is tied for the second-longest in school
history. Alex Len chipped in with 16 points and nine boards, while Dez Wells
added 12 points in the victory.
Erick Green poured in a game-high 28 points for the Hokies (9-5, 0-1), who
have lost five of their last seven outings after starting the season 7-0.
Robert Brown had 11 points, Joey van Zegeren scored 10, and Cadarian Raines
finished with eight points and 13 rebounds.
Layman scored 18 of his 20 points in the first half, including seven points in
the early going as Maryland jumped out to a 13-4 lead. The Terps went on to
shoot a sizzling 55.6 percent from the floor in the first half, including a 7-
of-14 effort from the perimeter, as they built a 53-37 halftime cushion.
The Hokies were unable to put together any kind of a rally in the second
stanza, as they shot just 36.4 percent from the floor. Maryland knocked down
