Description: The New Jersey Devils have traded Brian Rolston to the New York Islanders for Trent Hunter. TSN
Insight: Rolston was acquired by the Islanders so that they could come closer to the league's $48.3 million salary cap floor. In fact, that may be the reason the Isles have been kicking the tires on Alexei Yashin. Rolston, who has been affected by injuries and inconsistent scoring during his time with the Devils, will likely be a second or third-line forward for the Islanders.
1/27/2011 2:06:00 AM
Description: Brian Rolston scored the Devils' lone goal in their 3-1 loss to Detroit on Wednesday. Yahoo Sports
Insight: Rolston has scored goals in three of his last four games and is currently on a five-game point streak. This wasn't something we saw coming when Rolston was placed on waivers last month. Rolston has 11 points (4g-7a) in his last 11 games, so Jacques Lemaire's new (old) system is providing him with something good right now.
12/30/2010 1:12:00 PM
Description: Brian Rolston has cleared re-entry waivers, meaning no team has picked him up. TSN
Insight: The Devils' plan to shed Rolston's salary backfired, as there were rumors that the Islanders were going to claim him. Rolston is expected to rejoin the Devils.
12/28/2010 1:09:00 PM
Description: The New Jersey Devils have sent Brian Rolston to Albany of the AHL. TSN
Insight: Rolston is on a one-way contract, so the team is hoping that he is claimed by another team in order to free up cap space. We should know by Wednesday whether that is the case.
12/18/2010 11:01:00 AM
Description: Rolston picked up an assist on Friday night in a loss to the Predators.
Insight: Rolston now has two goals and three assists on the year over a 17 game span. (
12/15/2010 1:29:00 PM
Description: Brian Rolston has cleared waivers and will play for the Devils on Wednesday. Newark Star-Ledger
Insight: Devils GM Lou Lamoriello admitted that placing Rolston on waivers was a cost-cutting move. Rolston could eventually be placed on re-entry waivers, where he would be more likely to be reclaimed because a claiming team would only be responsible for half his salary.
12/14/2010 2:33:00 PM
Description: The New Jersey Devils have placed forward Brian Rolston on waivers. TSN
Insight: Rolston's salary will still count against the cap if he is sent to the minors or retires because he is over 35 years old. The Devils may try to place him on re-entry waivers if he clears waivers the first time, as a claiming team would only pay half his salary. Rolston has two goals and two assists in 15 games, so as a struggling forward on a struggling team, he should not be on your fantasy roster.
12/7/2010 9:01:00 AM
Description: Rolston scored his second goal of the season on Monday against the Penguins.
Insight: Rolston has two points in his last four games as he has only four points in 13 games this year. (
11/27/2010 11:03:00 PM
Description: Rolston picked up an assist on Saturday against the Flyers.
Insight: Rolston now has only three points in ten games so far this season for the Devils. He has a goal and two assists over that span. (
11/11/2010 1:30:00 PM
Description: Brian Rolston is expected to return for Friday's game against Edmonton. Bergen Record
Insight: Rolston has missed all but two games this season with a sports hernia. He hasn't supplied the Devils with much offense in his second stint with the team, but any positive news is a welcome sight in Jersey right now.
10/14/2010 12:37:00 AM
Description: Brian Rolston will miss the next four to six weeks, as he requires surgery to repair a sports hernia. TSN
Insight: Rolston had not recorded a point in two games this season. By placing Rolston on injured reserve, the Devils will free up $5 million of salary cap space, which they should hopefully use to recall ten players from the AHL.
10/11/2010 3:48:00 PM
Description: The Devils will play with only 15 skaters in Monday's game against Pittsburgh: nine forwards and six defensemen. Fire & Ice
Insight: Forward Brian Rolston will miss the game because of a lower-body injury, defenseman Anton Volchenkov is out with a broken nose, and forward Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond is serving a one-game suspension. The Devils do not have the cap room to call up another player, so their top forwards like Ilya Kovalchuk and Zach Parise could be double-shifting throughout the game.
9/23/2010 9:02:00 PM
Description: Despite a no-trade clause, rumors of a trade still plague Brian Rolston.
Insight: Trading Rolston would free up more than $5 million of cap space for the Devils. His no-trade clause makes it a tricky endeavor, but not impossible. Stay tuned. (
9/9/2010 5:00:00 PM
Description: According to Brian Rolston's agent, Stephen Bartlett, the Devils have still not asked his client to waive his no-trade clause.
Insight: Rolston still remains the most likely Devil to be gotten rid of in the wake of the Kovalchuk signing. He still has some gas left in the tank, though he's a shadow of his former self. (
