Stars ink Jagr to one-year deal

Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - The Dallas Stars signed winger Jaromir Jagr to a one-year, $4.55 million contract on Tuesday.

Jagr returned to the NHL after a three-year stint in the KHL and had 19 goals and 35 assists in 73 games for the Philadelphia Flyers, playing on the top line alongside All-Stars Claude Giroux and Scott Hartnell.

The 6'3, 240-pound right wing missed nine games last season because of a groin injury.

The 40-year-old Czech ranks eighth all-time in scoring, registering 1,653 points, 70 shy of former-teammate Mario Lemieux for seventh. Jagr is also 11th in goals with 665 and 12th with 988 assists.

"Jaromir Jagr is, without a doubt, one of the best players in the history of this league, and he demonstrated last season that he remains incredibly skilled, productive and valuable," Dallas Stars General Manager Joe Nieuwendyk said. "We see him fitting into our top two lines and contributing heavily to our offensive attack. Were very excited about adding a player of Jaromirs caliber to our club."

The five-time Art Ross Trophy winner has played 18 seasons, 11 with Pittsburgh, three with Washington, four with the New York Rangers and one with Philadelphia. He won the Hart Memorial Trophy as the league's most valuable player for the 1998-99 season and won two Stanley Cups with the Penguins in 1991 and 1992 and took home a gold medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics.

Jagr, a nine-time All-Star, has been named to the NHL's First All-Star Team seven times in his illustrious career. Jagr recorded at least 70 points in 15 straight seasons from 1992-2008, an NHL record, and has produced more than 100 points four times, most recently in 2005-06 with the Rangers.

The arrival of Jagr is a part of a busy offseason for the Stars, who signed veteran forward Ray Whiteney on Sunday and traded for center Derek Roy on Monday.
