Description: The New England Patriots lost a key player Tuesday when Leigh Bodden, their best cornerback, was placed on injured reserve. SOURCE: USATODAY.COM NFL NEWS
Insight: Never a good thing when you lose your best corner before the regular season is even played. Rookie Devin McCourty will probably fill in for Bodden this season and get tested often.

Description: Bodden is hoping to return to the Patriots next season, according to the Boston Globe.
Insight: Bodden, who will be a free agent, had a solid year with five interceptions and 56 tackles. (SportsBuff.com)

Description: As reported earlier, Bodden was cut loose by the Lions on Monday. At the time of the first report, his agent said a release would leave Bodden unlikely to return to Detroit.
Insight: Bodden will be one of the top corners available in the free-agent market. He should be more draftable in IDP leagues in 2009 once he lands with a team that won't make the mistake of keeping him out of the starting lineup in the beginning of the year. (SportsBuff.com)

2/4/2009 11:20:00 PM
Description: The Detroit News reports that the Lions have told Bodden that he'll be released before his $8.6 million March bonus comes due. Bodden went to Detroit before last season in the trade that made DT Shaun Rogers a Cleveland Brown.
Insight: Bodden's agent says his client is quite unlikely to return to Detroit. Bodden should be a fairly popular target on the open market and remain a quality IDP option as long as he's a starter. (SportsBuff.com)

Questionable12/12/2008 11:14:00 PM
Description: Bodden practiced on only a limited basis Friday after missing workouts on Thursday with a groin injury. He is questionable for Sunday.
Insight: That would be a big loss for the Lions and take away a potential IDP. Even if he plays, it's tough to trust that he'll make it through the game. (SportsBuff.com)
