Description: Jaguars running back Toby Gerhart ran six times for 19 yards and caught one ball for eight yards in his first preseason work.
Insight: Gerhart is guaranteed to get roughly 300 touches if he stays healthy and his 231-pound frame gives him a good chance to hold up to the pounding. He'll be fine between the tackles, but we are concerned about trying him on the outside. That could be where he losses carries to Jordan Todman or Storm Johnson.

Description: Vikings running back Toby Gerhart (hamstring) will miss Week 17, according to Mark Craig of the Star Tribune.
Insight: Gerhart missed Week 15 and had zero carries in Week 16 despite being active. The 26-year-old's injury cost him a valuable opportunity to prove he can be a starting running back in the NFL while Adrian Peterson was down with a foot sprain. Instead, Matt Asiata received 30 carries and had three TDs in Week 15 and will start in Week 17. Gerhart will be a free agent after the season.

Description: Toby Gerhart is playing some of the best football of his career right now. Over his last two games, the Vikings backup running back has logged 158 yards on just 15 carries.
Insight: If Gerhart got any goal line work, he might be worth starting in fantasy leagues. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be happening as evidenced by his one touchdown in 11 games. The 91 yards Gerhart rushed for on Sunday were his most since Week 16 of the 2011 season when he racked up 109 yards in a win over Washington.

9/4/2012 10:53:00 AM
Description: Vikings running back Toby Gerhart should be the primary running back in the Minnesota offense in Week 1, whether Adrian Peterson is in uniform or not.
Insight: Talking about Peterson, coach Frazier recently used the term "limited exposure." On a team with little chance of the playoffs, there is really no reasoin to rush AP back into the lineup with a full workload. Start Gerhart in Week 1 and sit Peterson.

7/23/2012 11:15:00 AM
Description: Vikings running back Toby Gerhart indicated that he expects to be the Opening Day starter even as he also believes that Adrian Peterson will play in Week 1.
Insight: That's a tough one to figure out. Gerhart starting and Peterson coming off the bench in a limited role will confuse fantasy owners and experts alike. It remains to be seen how this will unfold, but by the end of the season "AP" figures to be the starter. Peterson is currently being selected in the second round (ADP 17.2) while Gerhart is at 98.5.
