Packers' Rodgers has fractured collarbone

Green Bay, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has a fractured left collarbone, an injury he suffered during Monday's game against Chicago.

Various reports Tuesday morning hinted at the severity of the injury, which Rodgers confirmed during his weekly radio show on 540-AM in Milwaukee and head coach Mike McCarthy acknowledged at his press conference later in the day.

"I have a fractured collarbone, and we have not talked at all -- regardless of what's been reported -- we haven't talked at all about a timetable or anything," Rodgers told the radio station on Tuesday.

ESPN and NFL.com had indicated that the injury could sideline the 2011 NFL MVP for three weeks.

McCarthy also did not give a definitive timeframe on Rodgers' absence, stating only that the team is now in "a week-to-week mindset." He did disclose that the All-Pro quarterback avoided a worst-case scenario in that Rodgers' injury is not season-ending.

"I'm relieved," said McCarthy. "Talked to the doctors, then talked to Aaron. New information today was better. How long [he'll be out] we don't know."

Rodgers hurt his non-throwing shoulder during the opening possession of Monday's game against the Bears when he was sacked by Chicago's Shea McClellin. He jogged to the locker room shortly afterward and did not return to the sideline until the third quarter.

The three-time Pro Bowl selection was in sweats and watched Seneca Wallace throw for just 114 yards with an interception on 11-of-19 passing in Green Bay's 27-20 loss.

Wallace will assume starting duties in the meantime, with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporting that the Packers will promote Scott Tolzien from the practice squad to serve as the backup.

"I have all the confidence in the world in Seneca," stated McCarthy. "We will play offense like we've always played offense."

Rodgers hasn't missed a game because of injury since Dec. 19, 2010 after suffering a concussion the previous week.
