Deon Grant retires as a Giant

East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - Veteran safety Deon Grant, who won a Super Bowl with the New York Giants after the 2011 season, has decided to retire as a Giant.

The 34-year-old Grant's final game was the Giants' victory over New England in Super Bowl XLVI.

"I want to retire as a Giant," Grant said, "because I want to be a Giant for the rest of my life."

"The Giants are a connection in my heart that I knew that I was supposed to be there," Grant added. "The last year that I signed there to go to the Super Bowl I could have signed with a bunch of teams, but I wanted to sign with the Giants. The way that the owners opened the doors and signed me back and the general manager (Jerry Reese) and the coaching staff ... we did each other a favor, but it definitely solidified my career for me."

Grant began his 11-year NFL career with the Carolina Panthers and also played for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Seattle Seahawks. The Tennessee product played in 176 career regular-season games, recording 776 tackles, 6 1/2 sacks and 30 interceptions.
