NBA Game Summary - Atlanta at Sacramento
(Friday, November 16th)
Final Score: Atlanta 112, Sacramento 96
Sacramento, CA (Sports Network) - Kyle Korver and Lou Williams combined for 43
points to lead the Atlanta Hawks to a 112-96 wire-to-wire thrashing of
the Sacramento Kings on Friday.
Korver poured in a game-high 22 points and Williams had 21 points and five
assists. Al Horford chipped in with 20 points and 10 boards and Josh Smith had
19 points, eight rebounds and dished out six assists for the Hawks, winners in
two of their last three.
"I thought we moved the ball well. I thought tonight was probably our best
game as a team as far as executing plays, seeing the first, second and third
option and taking our time," Korver said. "And that's when guys like me are
able to thrive. Good ball movement and a good shooting night."
Jason Thompson netted 19 points and Marcus Thornton donated 17 points off the
bench for the Kings, losers of four straight.
"They played harder than us," Kings guard Tyreke Evans said. "From beginning
to end they had hard cuts, ran their stuff, and made shots. We just did the
total opposite. We have to do a better job of staying focused. It starts in
practice though."
DeMarcus Cousins was held to just nine points, but pulled down a game-high 16
rebounds in the setback.
Atlanta raced out to a 34-20 lead in the first quarter after shooting 58.3
percent from the floor. Jeff Teague led the charge with 13 points on 6-of-7
shooting in the frame. The Hawks also forced five turnovers in the period,
leading to seven points.
Sacramento was able to pull within 58-56 at the break after outscoring Atlanta
36-24 in the second. Aaron Brooks scored all of his 13 points in the quarter
and Thornton chipped in with 10. The Kings shot a blistering 71.4 percent from
the floor in the frame including 5-for-7 from 3-point range.
The Hawks were able to push their cushion to 86-70 after three quarters
thanks to a balanced attack led by Korver, who was 3-for-3 from the field
including a pair of 3-balls. Horford and Williams added seven each in the
period.
Atlanta cruised to victory in the final frame, going 10-for-16 from the floor.
The Kings pulled within 11 in the quarter following Thorton's 3-pointer with
3:58 left, but it would be as close as they would get the rest of the way as
the Hawks stretched their lead to 16 with 53.8 seconds remaining.
