Description: Cubs righthander Randy Wells has been sent down to Triple-A Iowa two days after he was designated for assignment.
Insight: Wells' stint in the Chicago starting rotation was a short and unsuccessful one. He returns to the minor leagues with a 1-2 record and a 5.34 ERA in 12 appearances with the big club this season.

Description: Chicago righthander Randy Wells will get the start for the Cubs Wednesday against the White Sox. He's filling in for Ryan Dempster, who just went on the disabled list with right lat tightness.
Insight: It's just Wells' third start of the season. Even if he pitches well in Dempster's place over the next couple of weeks, we doubt Wells will have any lasting fantasy impact. He's 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA in 10 appearances this year.

Description: Randy Wells allowed just one unearned run over three innings today.
Insight: He hasn't locked up a rotation spot but we expect him to get one by the end of spring training. He isn't useful in shallow leagues but those in deeper formats can rotate him in when the matchups look good.
