Description: Mike Carp was scratched from Boston's lineup Saturday due to lower-back tightness, according to Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald.
Insight: David Ortiz is not in the lineup so Carp was starting at first base and Mike Napoli at DH in the initial lineup Saturday. Daniel Nava will move to first and Jonny Gomes will start in left field against the Brewers.

Description: With Shane Victorino out with a strained hamstring, Mike Carp is in the starting lineup on Friday.
Insight: He's playing left field and batting fifth. He's yet to prove that he's a full-time player or fantasy worthy starter.

Insight: He's playing left field and batting fifth. Despite hitting .296 across 216 at bats last season, Carp is likely to be in a platoon situation with Jonny Gomes.

Description: Red Sox 1B/OF Mike Carp has been taking reps at third base during spring training. Carp played 29 games at first base last season and 43 at the two corner outfield positions. SOURCE: Providence Journal
Insight: Versatility is always nice and it could give Carp (.296, 9 HR, 43 RBI in 2013) more at bats, especially if the team winds up trading Will Middlebrooks. With that said, the Red Sox contemplated a similar conversion with Mike Napoli last year and never went through with it. Until we actually see Carp play third base in a game, his fantasy value shouldn't change.

Description: Boston first baseman Mike Carp is expected to make his first start of the postseason Sunday in Game 2 against Detroit. SOURCE: Drew Silva, NBC Sports
Insight: Carp has played sparingly during the playoffs but with Mike Napoli in the midst of a wicked slump (two for his last 16), the Red Sox are running out of options at first base. Carp is 2-for-8 in his career against tonight's starter Max Scherzer.

8/30/2013 10:13:00 AM
Description: Red Sox first baseman/outfielder Mike Carp (left shoulder) is questionable for Friday's game against the Chicago White Sox.
Insight: Carp has solid numbers (.307, 8 HR, 31 RBI) given his limited playing time (176 at-bats).

6/20/2013 9:43:00 PM
Description: Red Sox first baseman/outfielder Mike Carp (hamstring) has been cleared to play, according to WEEI.com.
Insight: Carp was supposed to be in the team's lineup for Game 2 of a doubleheader Tuesday, but did not end up playing. He has been out since suffering a hamstring injury Sunday. Carp has impressive numbers -- .324, 8 HR, 25 RBI -- in limited playing time (105 at-bats).

Description: Red Sox first baseman/outfielder Mike Carp is expected to start Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Rays, according to Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com.
Insight: Carp (.324, 8 HR, 25 RBI) left Sunday's game with tightness in his right hamstring.

6/17/2013 9:15:00 AM
Description: Red Sox first baseman/outfielder Mike Carp left Sunday's game because of a tight hamstring and is questionable for Tuesday against Tampa Bay.
Insight: Carp (.324, 8 HR, 25 RBI) suffered the injury while advancing to third on a single by Jarrod Saltalamacchia in the seventh inning. Manager John Farrell said he should be ready for Tuesday's series opener.

6/16/2013 6:41:00 PM
Description: Evan Drellich from the Springfield Republican is reporting that Red Sox first baseman/outfielder Mike Carp left Sunday's game because of a tight hamstring.
Insight: Carp (.324, 8 HR, 25 RBI) suffered the injury while advancing to third on a single by Jarrod Saltalamacchia in the seventh inning. He should be ready for Tuesday's series opener against the Rays.

6/16/2013 4:07:00 PM
Description: Boston first baseman Mike Carp came up limping in the seventh inning Sunday against Baltimore.
Insight: Shane Victorino came off the bench to pinch run for Carp with Daniel Nava taking over at first base. With Carp hurt and Mike Napoli still dealing with an illness, the Red Sox are extremely shorthanded at first base. Third baseman Will Middlebrooks could see some action at first if Carp's injury lingers.

6/15/2013 8:24:00 PM
Description: Red Sox 1B/OF Mike Carp is hitting .320 with eight homers this season after going 1-for-3 with a two-run slam Saturday versus Baltimore.
Insight: Carp has homered five times in his last 10 games and should continue to start at first base while Mike Napoli is out. However, he'll have limited playing time otherwise.

6/4/2013 10:30:00 PM
Description: Red Sox first baseman Mike Carp belted a homer and finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored Tuesday against the Rangers.
Insight: Carp has four homers and 17 RBI in 73 at-bats this season and is hitting .301. He'll be sent back to the bench when Shane Victorino returns from the DL.

4/17/2013 10:43:00 PM
Description: Red Sox first baseman Mike Carp swatted a triple and two doubles Wednesday in a win over Cleveland.
Insight: Carp has only appeared in four games this season and he'll probably receive even less playing time when David Ortiz returns to action later this week.

2/20/2013 4:36:00 PM
Description: The Red Sox have acquired 1B/OF Mike Carp from the Seattle Mariners for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Carp was designated for assignment last week.
Insight: Carp hit .286 with 12 homers, 46 RBIs and an .819 OPS in 64 games after the All-Star break in 2011 but just .213 with five homers in 59 games last season. He could end up winning the backup 1B job over Lyle Overbay since he can also play outfield. Working in Carp's favor is that he is out of options and would be exposed to waivers if he doesn't make the Opening Day roster.

3/29/2012 10:37:00 AM
Description: Mike Carp will head to the disabled list with a shoulder sprain, the Seattle Times reports. Carp went 0-for-4 on Wednesday in Seattle's Opening Day win vs. Oakland in Japan.
Insight: Carp hit 12 homers and had 46 RBIs as well as an .819 OPS after the All-Star break last season, so those banking on him to continue that production have to be disappointed by this news.

6/13/2010 10:09:00 AM
Description: Carp went 2-for-4 with a double on Saturday against the Padres.
Insight: Carp is now 4-for-15 with a double and a run scored in four games since being called up. (SportsBuff.com)

6/8/2010 8:41:00 AM
Description: Carp went 1-for-4 with a run scored on Monday against the Rangers.
Insight: Carp made his season debut for the Mariners and bat fifth in the lineup. He is someone to keep an eye on going forward as he has a lot of potential. (SportsBuff.com)
