Description: Tim Stauffer has been put back on the DL after reinjuring his right elbow in his first start of the season Tuesday night in Washington.
Insight: Recurring elbow injuries are never good and you wonder if Tommy John surgery might be in the cards for Stauffer if his health doesn't improve. Stauffer allowed three earned runs in five innings in his only start of the season on Monday. Stauffer received a no-decision.
5/14/2012 10:25:00 PM
Description: Tim Stauffer surrendered four runs (three earned) on seven hits in five innings of work Monday against Washington. This was Stauffer's first game of the season after beginning the year on the DL with a strained right elbow.
Insight: Stauffer wasn't overly impressive in his 2012 debut but he had nine wins and a 3.73 ERA in 31 starts last season, so you know he has some ability. Run support will be an issue with Stauffer and he isn't a huge strikeout pitcher either (128 Ks in 185.2 IP last year for San Diego).
4/6/2012 4:23:00 PM
Description: Tim Stauffer is headed to the disabled list with a strained elbow.
Insight: Stauffer was poised to become San Diego's Opening Day starter but instead the honor went to Edinson Volquez. Stauffer's biggest asset in fantasy is his solid ERA (3.73 last season). Stauffer is eligible to return to the majors April 15th.
4/3/2012 7:44:00 PM
Description: It's unlikely that Tim Stauffer's triceps injury will land him on the DL.
Insight: Stauffer has fantasy sleeper written all over him. He may not win a lot of games playing for the Padres but it wouldn't surprise us at all if Stauffer ends the season with an ERA in the low threes.
4/1/2012 3:21:00 PM
Description: Tim Stauffer's triceps injury isn't a serious one, but it could still keep him from making his first start of the season.
Insight: People forget about Stauffer because he plays for the Padres but this guy is actually a pretty darn good starting pitcher (9-12, 3.73 ERA). This injury probably had a lot to do with San Diego's decision to make Edinson Volquez the Opening Day starter.
6/8/2011 8:54:00 AM
Description: Tim Stauffer was brilliant on Tuesday night against the Rockies as he threw eight innings of shut out ball by only allowing five base runners and striking out eight.
Insight: Stauffer is a good NL only option and worth a look in deeper mixed leagues but don't expect a lot of wins behind that anemic SD offense
5/7/2011 7:42:00 AM
Description: Padres SP Tim Stauffer tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing just 4 hits and a walk, while striking out 6. He lost the win when closer Heath Bell allowed 3 runs in the 9th inning.
Insight: Stauffer has been solid this season, with a 2.61 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 31 K's against 9 walks. He is actually a must-start in NL-only leagues right now and is worth considering if you pay in deeper mixed leagues.
3/31/2011 6:18:00 AM
Description: Tim Stauffer has his work cut out for him in his first start of the season. He travels to St. Louis and is matched up against Chris Carpenter.
Insight: Stauffer was successful for a month as a starter last season but this is a tough task for him. Owners will other options might want to keep him on the bench for the first week.
3/18/2011 1:00:00 AM
Description: Stauffer will miss his Friday start because of a sore hip flexor.
Insight: We'll see if there's anything else to this, but it doesn't seem like much reason for fantasy owners to worry. (
2/27/2011 7:02:00 PM
Description: Tim Stauffer allowed five runs in 1 2/3 innings in his first spring start today.
Insight: He is the favorite for a rotation spot but he doesn't have it locked up. He needs to show better in his coming starts to secure that role. His 2010 stats show plenty of reasons to like him as a late round starter.
10/3/2010 3:05:00 AM
Description: Stauffer allowed one run on three hits over 6.1 innings on Saturday against the Cubs. He walked two and struck out four.
Insight: Stauffer recorded his second straight quality start but did not factor into the decision as the Padres could not score any runs for him. He finishes the year at 6-5 with a 1.85 ERA.(

9/23/2010 4:14:00 AM
Description: Tim Stauffer allowed one run over six innings to put the Padres back in the NL West lead.
Insight: Stauffer's ability to work in the bullpen and make spot starts has made him one on their unsung heroes this year. He can be used in deeper leagues next week for teams looking to solidify ERA and WHIP.
9/11/2010 8:15:00 PM
Description: Padres SP Tim Stauffer threw 6 shutout innings, allowing just 3 hits and 2 walks; he struck out 5 in the win over the Giants.
Insight: Stauffer has a decent WHIP and ERA; he is useful in NL-only leagues for as long as he continues to pitch like this.
9/8/2010 10:49:00 AM
Description: Padres manager Bud Black said it is possible that Tim Stauffer could start against the Giants on Saturday. SOURCE:
Insight: Stauffer is a reliever, but has started last season and could get more innings in the rotation if the starters continue to struggle. Still, he wouldn't make much of an impact to increase his value so don't get caught up in this possible move.
7/21/2010 11:34:00 PM
Description: Tim Stauffer pitched two scoreless innings to earn a win tonight in an extra inning win over the Braves.
Insight: He is healthy now and has a 0.33 ERA this year (yes, you read that correctly). If you are looking for a middle reliever to help pull your ERA and WHIP down there aren't any better than this guy.
