Description: The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review is reporting that 2013 could be A.J. Burnett's last season.
Insight: 2013 will be Burnett's 15th season in the major leagues. His career highlights include winning the World Series in 2003 and pitching a no-hitter against the Padres in 2001. He led the Bucs with 16 victories and a 3.51 ERA a season ago.

Description: A.J. Burnett has never made an Opening Day start before. That will change April 1st when the Pirates open the season at home against the Cubs.
Insight: Burnett lost his mojo in the Bronx but he got it back in Pittsburgh last season, finishing the year with 16 wins and a 3.51 ERA in 31 starts. The 36-year-old should put up similar numbers in 2013 as long as he avoids injury.

Description: Pirates starter A.J. Burnett won for the first time since Aug. 16 by giving up one run on four hits, striking out 11 and walking one Sunday against the Astros.
Insight: Burnett was once a threat to win 20 games this season -- he was 15-4 after his start on Aug. 16 -- but the Pirates went into a tailspin and Burnett didn't sniff the win column for more than a month.

Description: Despite a quality start, Pirates starter A.J. Burnett lost his fourth straight decision Tuesday against the Brewers. Burnett (15-8, 3.64 ERA) hasn't won since he improved to 15-4 on Aug. 16.
Insight: Burnett has three quality starts in his last six turns but he has nothing to show for it. It's good to see Burnett's season hasn't completely gone into the tank like Pittsburgh's has, but he's still nowhere close to the valuable fantasy starter he was earlier in the season.

Insight: Burnett (13-3, 3.27 ERA) should have earned your trust by now. He's a legitimate SP2 in mixed leagues.

Description: You might want to be careful about starting any Royals Sunday against Pittsburgh righthander A.J. Burnett. Yuniesky Betancourt (.182), Jeff Francouer (.167) and Alex Gordon (.167) are all hitting below .200 for their careers against the former Yankees ace.
Insight: Kansas City has now dropped three straight, including the first two games of this three-game set with the Pirates. We're expecting the fourth-place Royals to struggle again Sunday against Burnett, who has rejuvenated himself since returning to the National League (5-2, 3.76 ERA in nine starts this season).

Insight: Burnett has thrown eight innings in each of the two starts following his 12-run debacle against St. Louis on May 2. Burnett has allowed just six earned runs in 29 innings over his other four starts this season, but his ERA is still above 5.00 due to the shellacking the Cardinals gave him.
