Description: The Phillies have signed 3B Josh Fields to a minor league contract.
Insight: Fields last played in the majors back in 2010 when he got into 13 games with Kansas City. He's best known for his 2007 season in Chicago when he pounded out 23 homers for the White Sox. He's a longshot to get back to the big leagues and isn't the answer to the Phillies lack of power in their lineup.

Description: The Pirates have signed Fields to a minor league contract.
Insight: Fields missed much of 2010 recovering from hip surgery, but did hit .305 in 49 at-bats with the Royals. He did hit 23 home runs in 2005 for the White Sox, and is still just 27 years old. (

Description: Fields (hip) has been transfered from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL.
Insight: This move makes room for newly-claimed OF Jai Miller on the Royals' 40-man roster. Fields is expected to miss the entire season due to hip surgery. (

Description: The Kansas City Star reports Fields (hip) will begin baseball-related activities later in the week in Arizona.

Description: Fields (hip) has been placed on the 15-day DL retroactive to March 28 with a right hip flexor injury.
Insight: Fields will be eligible to return on April 12. (
3/29/2010 5:06:00 PM
Description: With Alex Gordon (broken thumb) and Alberto Callaspo (oblique) both injured, Fields could be the Royals' Opening Day third baseman.
Insight: Fields is still not a strong fantasy option, as he is likely to just be a placeholder until one of the other guys is healthy. (
3/2/2010 3:22:00 PM
Description: According to Bob Dutton of Royals Report, via Twitter, Fields was scratched from the Royals' intrasquad game on Tuesday due to stiff lower back.
Insight: Fields is in the mix to make Kansas City's roster as a backup after being acquired from the White Sox in the Mark Teahen deal. This may have been just a precaution. (
7/24/2009 10:15:00 AM
Description: Fields 1-for-3 with a grand slam in the White Sox' win over Tampa Bay on Thursday.
Insight: Fields now has seven home runs and 30 RBI so far this season. (
