Description: Blue Jays starter R.A. Dickey walked two and allowed six hits, one homer and two earned runs while striking out 10 in six innings Tuesday against the Giants.
Insight: It's not quite Cy Dickey, but it's closer than the minor league level starter we have seen over the first six weeks of the season. Dickey is now 3-5 with a 4.83 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP. We'll continue to monitor him for signs of his 2012 self.

Cold5/9/2013 10:48:00 PM
Description: In a matchup of reigning Cy Young Award winners, Blue Jays starter R.A. Dickey went six innings and allowed five hits and two earned runs while walking five and striking out five against the Rays on Thursday.
Insight: It's unclear how much of this can be blamed on Dickey's sore back/neck, but the knuckleballer just isn't right. He has walked 22 batters and allowed eight homers in 48 innings (5.06 ERA, 1.35 WHIP).

Cold5/4/2013 8:09:00 PM
Description: Toronto starter R.A. Dickey had another disastrous outing Saturday against Seattle, allowing three homers and seven earned runs in six innings.
Insight: Dickey has walked 17 batters and allowed eight homers and 25 earned runs in 42 innings. We didn't expect him to match last season's Cy-Young-Award-winning numbers after moving to the American League, but we also didn't expect to see him struggle this much considering he had a 2.84 ERA in 2010 and a 3.28 ERA in 2011. The back and neck stifness he has dealt with all season could be the cause of his struggles.

4/28/2013 4:43:00 PM
Description: Toronto starter R.A. Dickey says he's still pitching with pain in his neck and back and plans to have an MRI this week so the team can be more specific in its treatment, according to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca.
Insight: Dickey allowed four hits (2 HR) and three earned runs over seven innings Sunday in a loss to the Yankees and has a 4.50 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP through 36 innings.

4/23/2013 10:47:00 PM
Description: After allowing four runs and walking five in six innings Tuesday versus the Orioles, Toronto starter R.A. Dickey admitted that he's still feeling pain in his neck and back, according to John Lott of the National Post.
Insight: Dickey left his last start after experiencing soreness in his neck and back area but he was able to make his next scheduled start Tuesday. We'll see how it affects him his next time on the hill.

4/18/2013 10:00:00 PM
Description: Blue Jays starter R.A. Dickey is expected to make his next start, according to John Lott of the National Post. Dickey left Thursday's start due to neck and back tightness.
Insight: Dickey has allowed just seven hits and one run over his last 12 innings after giving up 15 hits and 10 earned runs over his first 10 2/3. He lines up to start next week at Baltimore.

4/18/2013 8:55:00 PM
Description: Blue Jays starter R.A. Dickey left Thursday's game due to neck and back tightness, according to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca. The team says his removal was precautionary.
Insight: Dickey had a two-hit shutout going through six innings on just 64 pitches, so this is unfortunate. The knuckleballer has allowed just seven hits and one run over his last 12 innings after giving up 15 hits and 10 earned runs over his first 10 2/3.

4/14/2013 9:42:00 AM
Description: After two sub-par performances in a row to start the season, R.A. Dickey finally turned in a decent outing Saturday against Kansas City.
Insight: The 2012 NL Cy Young winner gave up just one run on five hits in 6 1/3 innings. Dickey lowered his ERA from 8.44 to 5.82 in the process. He's scheduled to take the mound again next Thursday versus the White Sox.

Cold4/7/2013 4:13:00 PM
Description: Blue Jays starter R.A. Dickey was blasted for eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings Sunday against Boston. He walked two and gave up two longballs while striking out five.
Insight: Dickey's first AL East opponent didn't greet him very warmly. The knuckleballer has walked six batters and allowed three homers in 10 2/3 innings.

4/2/2013 10:43:00 PM
Description: Blue Jays starter R.A. Dickey threw six innings and walked four batters, allowed five hits and gave up four runs (three earned) in his Toronto debut Tuesday versus Cleveland.
Insight: We don't think Dickey needs to prove that his 2.73 ERA last season wasn't a fluke since he had a 2.84 ERA in 2010 and a 3.28 in 2011, but it could be extremely difficult to duplicate a 230/54 K/BB in the American League East.

12/17/2012 12:05:00 PM
Description: Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is reporting the Blue Jays and R.A. Dickey have agreed to a two-year extension that will allow the Mets and Blue Jays to complete their deal.
Insight: The deal should be official soon. Catcher Josh Thole will join Dickey in Toronto while the Mets are expected to receive catchers John Buck and Travis d'Arnaud as well as starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard.

12/16/2012 2:03:00 PM
Description: Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports the Blue Jays and Mets have agreed to a trade that would send R.A. Dickey to Toronto. The Blue Jays have been given a 72-hour negotiating window to try and sign Dickey to an extension with the window closing at 2 pm Tuesday afternoon.
Insight: The deal should be official soon. Catcher Josh Thole will join Dickey in Toronto while the Mets are expected to receive catchers John Buck and Travis d'Arnaud as well as starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard.

12/15/2012 5:46:00 PM
Description: Toronto's trade for New York righthander R.A. Dickey is almost complete according to Yahoo's Jeff Passan.
Insight: The Mets will likely receive prospects as compensation. Dickey and the Mets weren't making any progress on a new contract extension, so this is probably for the best. Dickey is 2-2 with a 6.55 ERA in five lifetime appearances at the Rogers Center.

12/14/2012 5:48:00 PM
Description: The Blue Jays are reportedly in the running to acquire starter R.A. Dickey from the Mets. While there is no agreement yet, the two sides have made progress. SOURCE: Jon Morosi, FOX Sports
Insight: Dickey is the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner but the Mets aren't willing to give in to the 38-year-old's contract demands. New York is in the hunt for a catcher and Toronto is particularly deep at that position.

12/8/2012 10:59:00 AM
Description: With little progress being made on a trade or any contract extension, Newsday's Marc Craig gets the feeling righthander R.A. Dickey will play out the rest of his contract and return to the Mets next season.
Insight: New York's asking price for Dickey in a trade seems to be extremely high, so it's no surprise that little traction has been made on that front. The Mets have been hesitant to give Dickey the two-year, $30 million contract he desires because of his age (he just turned 38) but he's also coming off a Cy Young Award and history tells us that knuckleballers have a much longer shelf life than typical starting pitchers. Perhaps the Mets will come to their senses and ink Dickey long-term later this offseason.

12/5/2012 8:18:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN's Baseball Tonight, R.A. Dickey's agent believes the knuckleballer will be dealt during the offseason.
Insight: Nothing is imminent but the Red Sox and Royals have both been discussed in possible trade scenarios for the 2012 NL Cy Young winner. The Mets and Dickey remain about $10 million apart in contract negotiations.

12/2/2012 11:07:00 AM
Description: TR Sullivan from MLB.com reports that the Rangers are looking to make a trade for Mets starter R.A. Dickey.
Insight: Dickey played in Texas from 2001 to 2006 so he's already familiar with the organization. The 2012 NL Cy Young winner has been in discussions with the Mets about a contract extension though little headway has been made up to this point.

11/17/2012 7:33:00 PM
Description: ESPN's Buster Olney has been told that Mets righhander R.A. Dickey is seeking a two-year extension worth more than $20 million.
Insight: That might be a little out of New York's price range. Dickey is hoping to stay with the Mets but if the two sides can't work out an agreement, he could get traded this offseason.

11/14/2012 7:14:00 PM
Description: Mets righthander R.A. Dickey has won the 2012 National League Cy Young Award.
Insight: Dickey, the first knuckleballer to win the award and the first Met to win it since Dwight Gooden in 1985, led the NL in strikeouts and was second in wins behind Washington's Gio Gonzalez. Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers finished second in the voting after winning the award in 2011.

10/31/2012 9:33:00 PM
Description: The Mets have exercised starting pitcher R.A. Dickey's team option for next season.
Insight: Dickey had a Cy Young caliber year for New York in 2012, finishing the year with a career-high 20 wins and 230 strikeouts. The Mets have expressed interest in giving Dickey a long-term deal though at age 38, it's uncertain how many years they'd be able to give him.
