NOTES
The European Tour heads to Bahrain for a new tournament, the Volvo Golf Champions. The event will be contested on the Montgomerie Course at the Royal Golf Club and the man who designed the course, Colin Montgomerie, is playing this week. Monty, the 2010 European Ryder Cup captain, will be joined at the event by new European Ryder Cup Captain, Jose Maria Olazabal. The field this week will also include two former major champions Padraig Harrington and Todd Hamilton as well as five of the top-20 players in the world - Paul Casey, Ian Poulter, Francesco Molinari, Robert Karlsson and Edoardo Molinari. Despite being a champions event, just one of the season`s first five winners is in the field. Alfred Dunhill Championship winner Pablo Martin will be at Royal Golf Club starting Thursday. Golf Channel has four hours of tape-delayed coverage the first two days, then three hours of action the final two days. Coverage starts at 9:30 a.m. (et) all four rounds. Next week is the Qatar Masters, where Karlsson fired a seven-under 65 in the final round last year to beat 2009 winner Alvaro Quiros by three strokes.
