North Dakota football coach Mussman gets extension
Grand Forks, ND (Sports Network) - University of North Dakota head football coach Chris Mussman has received a two-year contract extension through 2012, the school announced Friday.
Mussman, in his first year as head coach, led the Fighting Sioux to a 6-4 record in their first year of a five-year FCS transition. They previously competed in Division II, where they were national champions in 2001 and a national runner-up in 2003.
"Chris has been an integral part of the Sioux football tradition for the past 10 seasons, and I believe he is the right man for the right time to continue to lead Sioux football into the Division I era," said North Dakota athletic director Brian Faison.
The 40-year-old Mussman previously served as an assistant coach for nine seasons, including a seven-year stint as the offensive coordinator (2001-2007). He was also elevated to assistant head coach in 2004.
