Lafayette football coach signs contract extension
Easton, PA (Sports Network) - Lafayette signed head football coach Frank Tavani to a two-year contact extension Thursday. The deal will keep Tavani with the Leopards through the 2014 season.
Tavani has guided Lafayette to three straight Patriot League championships (2004 to 2006) in his eight years as head coach. The Leopards 29 wins over the last four seasons are the most over a four-year span at the school since the 1920s.
"This is another step towards achieving a personal goal," Tavani said. "When I took the job in December of 1999, I said that I intended to take this program to a championship level and that one day, I hoped to retire as the head football coach at Lafayette. I'm thankful to the college administration for the opportunity to continue to work toward that goal."
In 2007, the Leopards finished second in the Patriot League with a 7-4 record, including a 21-17 win over Lehigh in the 143rd meeting of college football's most-played rivalry.
