Ypsilanti, MI (Sports Network) - Ryan Radcliff threw for 284 yards and two
touchdowns as he helped lead the Central Michigan Chippewas to a 34-31 win
over the Eastern Michigan Eagles in Mid-American Conference action at
Radcliff converted 20-of-34 passes for the Chippewas (4-6, 2-4 MAC), his two
TD strikes going to Andrew Flory who caught nine passes for 118 yards in the
team's second win in the last three outings.
The Eagles (1-9, 0-6), losers of three in a row, were paced by Alex Gillett
who not only passed for 77 yards and a score, he also ran for a game-high 162
yards and reached the end zone twice. Fellow signal-caller Tyler Benz
converted 7-of-9 passes for 43 yards and a TD, but he was intercepted once and
sacked two times.
EMU opened the game with back-to-back touchdowns as Benz tossed a 19-yard
score to Tyreese Russell, followed by a 21-yard scoring run by Gillett to give
the hosts a 14-0 edge after one period of play.
In the second quarter CMU picked up a 10-yard TD reception by Flory and a 23-
yard field goal by David Harman to cut the deficit to 14-10 at the break.
In the second half the Eagles again scored early as Gillett raced 53 yards
into the end zone. However, from there the Chippewas rattled off three
straight touchdowns to take control.
Central Michigan began with an 11-yard scoring run by Zurlon Tipton and
continued with a 49-yard interception return for a TD by Kavon Frazier.
Capping a seven-play, 79-yard drive, Radcliff hooked up with Flory on a 14-
yard scoring play to give the visitors a 31-21 advantage.
EMU kicker Dylan Mulder drilled a 30-yard field goal less than two minutes
into the fourth, but Harman countered for the Chippewas with a 36-yard effort
of his own to give CMU a 34-24 edge with 10:31 to play.
Late in the period Gillett combined with Jay Jones on a 25-yard TD pass play,
but after that the Eagles simply ran out of time in the three-point decision.
