NCAA Game Summary - San Jose State at Utah State

Logan, UT (Sports Network) - Adam Kennedy hit Matt Austin with a 21-yard
scoring pass with just 47 seconds left on the clock to lift the Utah State
Aggies to a 34-33 victory over the San Jose State Spartans in a Western
Athletic Conference battle at Romney Stadium.
Kennedy paced Utah State (4-5, 2-2 WAC) while under center in the win,
completing 21-of-27 passes for 255 yards and a touchdown with one
interception. Robert Turbin led the Aggies ground-attack, rushing for 128
yards and a pair of scores on 22 totes.
Matt Faulkner threw for 340 yards and one touchdown to lead San Jose State
(3-7, 2-4) in a losing effort, with Jabari Carr grabbing four passes for 88
yards and a score. Brandon Rutley added 63 yards and a touchdown on the ground
as well for the Spartans.
A 27-yard Jens Alvernik field goal gave the Spartans a 3-0 lead early in the
opening period of play.
Alvernik connected again just minutes later to extend the SJSU lead.
The Aggies responded less than two minutes later, taking a 7-6 lead on a 39-
yard Turbin run.
On the ensuing kickoff, Tyler Ervin broke free for a 95-yard touchdown to put
the Spartans back on top, 13-7.
Rutley then found the end zone late in the frame after a five-yard run to give
SJSU a 20-7 advantage.
Defense took over in the second quarter, as neither squad was able to put
points on the board.
Turbin pulled Utah State to within 20-14 early in the third period following a
four-yard scamper.
A 21-yard Alvernik kick gave SJSU a 23-14 advantage, but the Aggies responded
less than a minute later with a 77-yard Michael Smith run.
Faulkner put the Spartans ahead, 30-21, early in the final period of play with
a 34-yard toss to Carr, and a 24-yard kick from Alvernik midway through the
frame extended the SJSU lead further.
Just minutes later, however, Kennedy hooked up with Travis Van Leeuwen on a
14-yard strike to pull the Aggies within 33-28.
The Aggies defense then held SJSU off the board on their next possession, and
Kennedy was able to orchestrate an eight-play, 75-yard drive that culminated
in a 21-yard scoring strike to Austin with just 47 seconds left on the clock. A
two-point conversion attempt failed, but the Aggies were able to hold on for
the one-point win.
