Louisville, KY (Sports Network) - Dexter Heyman picked off true freshman Gary
Nova late in the fourth quarter to seal Louisville's 16-14 victory over
Rutgers.
Teddy Bridgewater completed 10-of-18 passes for 122 yards, one touchdown and
an interception for the Cardinals (3-4, 1-1 Big East), who snapped a three-
game skid.
Jeremy Wright carried the ball 11 times for 108 yards for Louisville, which
racked up 187 yards on the ground. Dominique Brown rushed for 44 yards and a
score on 12 carries.
The news was not all good for Louisville, which saw cornerback Anthony Conner
suffer a broken neck in the second quarter. Conner collided with Rutgers wide
receiver Mohamed Sanu and was carted off the field.
Nova connected on 18-of-33 passes for 207 yards, one touchdown and three
interceptions for the Scarlet Knights (5-2, 2-1), who had a four-game winning
streak snapped. Nova fell to 2-1 as a starter.
Savon Huggins carried the ball 10 times for 36 yards and a touchdown for
Rutgers, which still leads the all-time series by a 7-4 margin. Sanu hauled in
10 passes for 128 yards and a score.
Down 16-7, the Scarlet Knights put together a 14-play, 80-yard scoring drive.
Rutgers converted two third downs during the march. Faced with a 3rd-and-9
near midfield, Sanu came up with a 19-yard catch. On the second play of the
fourth quarter, Sanu hauled in a 12-yard TD pass to cut the gap to 16-14.
Rutgers had a chance to take the lead after David Rowe intercepted Bridgewater
with over two minutes to play. But Nova's third pass on the ensuing Rutgers
possession landed in the hands of Heyman.
The Cardinals ran out the clock to seal the win.
