Birmingham, AL (Sports Network) - Ty Long's 40-yard field goal with 21 seconds
remaining lifted the previously winless UAB Blazers over the UCF Knights,
26-24.
Jonathan Perry completed 31-of-42 passes for 327 yards, two touchdowns and two
interceptions for the Blazers (1-6, 1-3 C-USA), who had lost their first six
games of the season.
Darrin Reaves carried the ball 15 times for 83 yards, while Jackie Williams
caught 10 passes for 82 yards.
Jeff Godfrey connected on 13-of-22 passes for 133 yards and an interception
for the Knights (3-4, 1-2), who have lost two in a row and four of five.
Blake Bortles completed 6-of-10 passes for 102 yards and an interception.
Brynn Harvey carried the ball 17 times for 74 yards and two touchdowns for
UCF, which still leads the all-time series by a 7-2 margin.
Down 14-7 after one quarter of play, the Blazers ripped off 16 unanswered
points to take a 23-14 lead early in the fourth.
Latavius Murray's one-yard rushing touchdown and Shawn Moffitt's 24-yard field
goal gave the Knights a 24-23 edge with five minutes to play.
The Blazers responded with a 13-play, 61-yard drive to win the game. Faced
with a 3rd-and-12 near midfield, Patrick Hearn caught a 22-yard pass for a
fresh set of downs. UAB quickly faced another third down, but a defensive pass
interference penalty gave the Blazers a first down at the UCF 26. Long came
onto the field with 21 seconds remaining and made a 40-yarder for a 26-24
edge.
Chase Daniel intercepted Bortles to seal the victory.
